No Daily Brief today – January 25, 2011

I’m heading out of town today so there won’t be a daily brief until next Monday.

In the meantime though, we can all speculate on how many people are going to show up for the Santa Clarita Food Fest next month. Here’s a city video about the event:

The food truck festival at Bridgeport marketplace had 4,000 attendees, but it was free. This festival should be less cramped but perhaps more will attend given the amount of trucks that are going to be at Central Park. You also have to buy a ticket to go.

Anyway it’s great to see the City embrace the food truck lifestyle, which is not just about food but is also about being outdoors and social.

    Check out the food trucks on the first thursday of February the 4th at the Art Walk and Farmers Market 4 to 7pm in Downtown Newhall…and it is free!

    I won’t be paying to get on public property, either. I’ll be paying to get to a ton of trucks without having to drive into LA, and without the level of crowding from the Bridgeport event… Food trucks at Art Walk/Farmers Market now? That’s the best all around solution tho! There were 5 at the SCV “street” fair at COC on Saturday too – that event was a blast. TBB – any chance you guys can have the Thurs nite event go until 8 or 9 pm tho? 7pm is hard when you work out of town. We’ve gone a few times before, but usually can’t get there until 6:30 at the earliest…

    Since the City is embarking on a public private partnership for the Bermite Whitaker site, I thought the linked article would be enlightening. http://www.edmontonjournal.com/business/Edmonton+Commons/4154208/story.html Sorry you’ll have to cut and paste. Think the City will be getting the brightest and best help with this or will the outcome be like the lawsuit over the Golden Valley Road eminent domain?

    I’m with the paying to get on public property camp here. I understand very much that it’s probably designed as a crowd control and planning measure… But free tickets would have accomplished the same thing. What’s next? Paying for the summer concerts too?

    Would it be so bad if we paid a little for the concert series even if it were just $1? Also the City is not putting on the event if you look at the website correctly.

    Crowds leave mounds of trash which costs money to pick up and Andy Gumps cost money to rent. All you hipster food truck lifestylers, open up your wallets! The City has to pay for those libraries somehow!

    Mike trying to locate that truck that you have spoken about before and I cant recall the name? I may be in Cali in a couple of weeks and want to look it up and try some food.

    Yes! I thought it started with a K? But if you can recommend any other trucks that would be great. We have 2 in Vegas and they are both great. Fukuburger truck is the best (asian burgers)

    OK yeah, Kogi. They started the whole craze. Very good stuff. They have five trucks, schedule posted here: http://kogibbq.com/ If you’ll be in SCV, @scvtrucks on twitter does a good job tracking the latest on all scv-bound trucks.

    I’ll pay the $5, mebee it’ll keep the riff-raff out … you know, the Radsville crowd … Hopefully they’ll have plenty of Fosters and a Koala Bear or two to box with … er is that Kangaroos? I know someone who has a few of those in her backyard.

    They aren’t doing a good job of promoting it, but a percentage of ticket proceeds from the Food Truck Fest are going to support the Santa Clarita Pantry. This according to the ticket vendor ( http://www.eventbrite.com/event/900181467 )
