Local Aussie tells the homeland about ‘Awesometown’

Local resident Susan Fujiki is a native of Australia. On her blog The Tatami Mat, she recently shared tips on how to piss off an Australian.  This caught the notice of Australian radio 1233 ABC Newcastle, so they had her on the air to talk about her experiences living abroad. It’s a charming interview, but the best part is when she explains the notion of “Awesometown” and “Radsville” (Land of Bossert) to the puzzled host.

    Thank you so much for the post and also for posting it today which is Australia Day (in Australia, tomorrow for us here). January 26th is the day we celebrate the arrival of the First Fleet into Sydney Cove in 1788. There are a few of us Aussies here in Santa Clarita and I’m sure we will all be craving lamingtons, meat pies and a good glass of Aussie red wine by the end of the day.

    Okay, I’m confused. Where do you keep your kangaroos and koalas if not in the backyard?

    LOL … no kangaroos or koalas in my backyard but I do have cockatoos, rainbow lorikeets, bluetongue lizards, possums, echidnas, bandicoots …. and two male children! I confess I live on an acre of bushland so I’m lucky, most Aussies don’t have a backyard full of wildlife.

    It stands to mention that the US does indeed have a better swimming team than ALL OTHERS. Not only that, but Awesometown’s own Anthony Ervin swam through crocodile-infested waters to win gold and silver in Sydney. Gold and silver.

    Nah, Australians are lovers, not fighters! We’d never let anything get in the way of an icy cold beer and good yarn! If you want to fight, you’re on your own – it’s going to be 40 degrees celsius here today and I can assure none of us could be bothered making the effort …..
