SCVTalk Live Blog Tonight from City Council Chambers

The SCVTalk team will be live-blogging tonight as results come in. Get your F5 key ready to hit refresh as we’ll be updating a single post as results, analysis and pictures come in.

8:00 PM  The polls have closed.  If this year is anything like last year, you can expect the earliest vote-by-mail results to be reported in less then 30 minutes.  The City has put up a website for live results, too, with Gail Ortiz MCing.

6:55 PM A reader reports:

My wife and I just delivered two bullet votes for TimBen at Wiley Canyon Elementary. Thanked poll workers for volunteering. When I asked them how turnout was, they shook their heads and with a heavy sigh said, “not so good a little more than 1 %.”

Update: We’re now on Twitter. Follow @SCVTweets for live updates.

Update: We’re going to spin up a new Twitter account as well. Stay tuned for details.

Update: It’s said we can’t truly look forward without first looking back.  In that vein, here’s a sampling of the election mailers that informed, dismayed, and delighted people who vote by mail. These particular ones are the best worst photos: grimaces/squints from staring into the sun, too much photoshopping, stock photo abuse, jagged edges from sloppy background removal, questionable proportions…click for full size. From a pure marketing standpoint… I always think Jon’s pictures come of as more appropriate for a law firm advertisement then a political candidate. The crossed arm minimal smile look just says, “have you been injured in a car accident? I’m Jon Hatami and I’ll fight for you!” Just a small observation from a marketing guy who over analyzes things.
  8. ScottEApril 10, 2012 at 2:39 pm
Ouch! I felt my pockets lighten by 40% just looking at it. … and I’m not even injured .. well, physically..
  9. NateApril 10, 2012 at 2:54 pm
HAHAHA! I am going to miss Juking Jon and his island of misfit tools
  10. IHeartSCVApril 10, 2012 at 2:56 pm
Well, his prescient(?) slogan on the mailer is “A Prosecutor, NOT a Politician.” Self-fulfilling prophesy?
  11. SCV SageApril 10, 2012 at 3:41 pm
I am thankful I didn’t get too many flyers as I voted by mail early on — but a couple of candidate campaigns didn’t check that record with the City Clerk and mailed me flyers. Guess who? Ed Colley & Laurie Ender. Birds of a feather.

You should have posted the signs Timben put up at all the precincts this morning illegally. Real good Boydston campaign. Way to break the city’s law once again.
  13. HarveyApril 10, 2012 at 2:44 pm
Interesting mailers. Thanks for posting. Anyone know where the end of election / campaign after parties are tonight ? I heard TBB is hosting a party at Route 66 ?
  14. NateApril 10, 2012 at 2:55 pm
Route 66 you have to be joking! What Tilted Kilt was booked?
  15. ScottEApril 10, 2012 at 3:26 pm
S.T.F.U. Nathan! We all know that YOU will be #blorphing on the ground after just half of one 3×3 at In-N-Out. #Duchess
  16. NateApril 10, 2012 at 5:05 pm
HAHA! Sounds like a challenge… or a compliment. You think I could do a whole 3×3? I am watching my weight.
  17. AdamApril 10, 2012 at 3:34 pm
Bob Kellar is hosting his at Robinson Ranch. Jon Hatami is having his at Biar Acadamy in Canyon Country. No clue about Laurie Ender. Ed Colley will be in bed by 8:15 as he knows he has no chance.
  18. NateApril 10, 2012 at 2:52 pm
Colley looks like he could be Jeff’s brother… no offense Jeff.
  19. NateApril 10, 2012 at 2:56 pm
I think I figured out where Kellar’s cash went… he is hosting his party at Robin$on Ranch.
  20. BrianBApril 10, 2012 at 3:31 pm
Campaign after parties? Haha! Route 66 sounds cool. Expect to see TBB with friends, family , some theatre folks possibly wearing capes, and the Valencia high school drama team. I am certain there will be plenty of campaigns signs there too. Kellar partying at Robinson ranch should be fun, although I predicted Bergies. Either way some quality 30 year old scotch will be put to use. Ender will possibly be seen at Salt Creek with family and friends pondering her loss over an appletini. Hatami has put on Facebook his party will be at Bier Academy. Expect to see his team along with family and friends, as well as regulars who don’t know who he is or what on earth these people are doing there. Ed Colley will probably be in his basement alone pondering a devastating loss while watching “Patton” in his Air Force ROTC uniform. Nate of course will not be invited to anyone’s party, or anywhere for that matter. Unless of course, you count world of warcraft chat rooms.

5:15 PM – Grey pickup truck driving eastbound Valencia BLVD by the new 99cent store with giant TimBen signs down the side.
  25. LarMccApril 10, 2012 at 5:08 pm
6:00 PM – Blue pickup truck eastbound on Magic Mtn Parkway with giant TimBen signs. Signs can’t be seen from space, but they are big.
  26. LindaApril 10, 2012 at 5:23 pm
Saw the same truck on my way to vote @ 3:00 p.m. Clever strategy!
  27. ScottEApril 10, 2012 at 4:32 pm
Hey Jeff, are you going to actually be at the City Hall? If so, when? If so, I may stop by to say hi. If so, are you interested in some pizza? If so, do you think they would actually let me bring it in? If so, how many are going to be there? In your cadre? So many questions…
  28. mikecApril 10, 2012 at 5:02 pm
Two things! Remember to get your press pass and don’t screw it up like trivia!
  29. ScottEApril 10, 2012 at 5:19 pm
I don’t need no stinkin press pass .. (Do I?)
  30. NateApril 10, 2012 at 5:07 pm
I think BrianB is trying to go out with a bang… see next fall when Juking Jon registers at COC so he can run for class president as a pro pot democrat.

Voted at Presbyterian Church at Newhall Ave. and Market at 4:15. The number of citizens that had voted at that time was 60. There are approximately 2900 registered voters that would use that polling place if they were voting today. He had no info on how many of that number may have mailed in their ballots earlier. Also just brought my mail in and there was my 3rd Laurie Ender glossy flyer. Reading it now – Didn’t realize that Santa Clarita is “California’s best city.” And probably wasn’t great that SCVTV just posted this to Facebook: Major Crime up 9.8% in SCV in 2012 – while the mailer says “Crime in Santa Clarita is at an all-time record low……..” But the good news is according to this latest flyer, if Ender gets reelected she is going to stop the CEMEX mega mine, and cleanup the BERMITE property once and for all. Glad she can get this stuff done since, God knows, nothing is happening in Washington DC by our Congressman and our Senator. I LOVE THESE GLOSSY FLYERS!
