- Chloride issue comes to a dramatic & intriguing end:For the last several months we've been told that Alternative 4, that last and most expensive of the four Alternatives, was the only way the SCV could satisfactorily clean chloride out of its water before it went downstream to VeCo. Well guess what happened at the meeting last night where the Sanitation Board selected an option? At the last minute (or, "this week" as Jim Holt puts it), VeCo interests suddenly said they would support Alternative 2, the far less expensive plan. Whoa whoa whoa, you're saying, I smell shenanigans. So do I. You don't just lead a community up to the gallows then pull it back before the noose is tightened and say, "Hey, only kidding." Petz was convinced only yesterday the whole thing was a scam; yet even he doesn't have an explanation for the strange turn of events in a post today. SIGNAL

- I've never known a Coastie to go soft and be nice to someone from SCV. Who got to the farmer groups and how were their arms successfully bent until someone cried uncle?
- Home sales slowed in September thanks to the end of summer, perhaps some fear over government shut down, or whatever animal spirits you want to pick this week. But condo sales were still up year over year and month over month, as were prices: 16% for SFR and 35% for condos over 10/2012. And in other good news, foreclosure sales are now only 5.5% of the market, down nearly half, and short sales are down from 33% to just 11.4%. SIGNAL
- Why do there seem to be so many collisions on or near Decoro? Yesterday a mom and her daughter were involved in a collision with a Ford Expedition. Thankfully no serious injuries. As a dad the pic in the story is a bit heart wrenching. SIGNAL
- An LASD Deputy who lives in Valencia received probation yesterday after pleading no contest to beating an LASD inmate with his fists back in 2011. The inmate was in the back of a police car and apparently the Deputy wailed on him for a bit, so it's off to probation & some kind of counseling for the Deputy. KHTS
- Never going to let Saugus live this one down: The exciting and amazing news last week that mountain lions may have sauntered down Saugus way was, perhaps, a bit too good to be true. Cougar News, COC's student news website, says other residents identified the supposed mountain lions as regular run of the mill bobcats. And they have good descriptions too, particularly the length of the tail vis a vis bobcat vs mountain lion, which is pretty easy to spot. So what gives Saugus? I know it's the sleepiest most dreary part of town but try not to let your imagination get away with things ok? COUGAR NEWS
- Darryl Manzer has been around these parts for a long time, so when he speaks, I listen, and so should you. Manzer in a new column that hails the arrival of downtown Newhall as a destination for the SCV following a decade + of redevelopment efforts by the City. "All that redevelopment money seems to be paying off. In a big way," Manzer writes before ending his column with an entreaty to ThinkSCV for holiday shopping. SCVNEWS
